NJ train explosive: Man carried explosives on train week before Boston Marathon

NJ train explosive: Man carried explosives on train week before Boston Marathon, Some scary news out of New Jersey as word from the NY Daily News on April 26, 2013, is that a man was arrested on a NJ train for carrying explosives aboard. The freaky thing is that this incident happened a mere week before the bombings at the Boston Marathon. The transit train was bound for New York.

27-year-old Mykyta Panasenko said that he detonated the explosives in the woods "for fun," but they weren't bombs. He said they were just fireworks.

Panasenko ended up being arrested on April 15, 2013, and charged with possession of the explosive devices. He also was charged with creating a risk of widespread damage. A search of his New Jersey home did turn up explosive components, but there were no completed devices.

“There is no indication at this point of the investigation that he intended to detonate a device in his building or on the transit system,” Jersey City cops said in a press release.

The young man appeared in court earlier this week, but was released on his own recognizance. He had already spoken with the FBI and advised them he had no ill intent and didn't know the fireworks were illegal.

"They were fireworks," he said. "Obviously, it was a bad idea."
