Canadian airline WestJet debuts at Dallas/Fort Worth International

Canadian airline WestJet debuts at Dallas/Fort Worth International, WestJet, the second-largest air carrier in Canada, launched daily nonstop service between Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) Airport and Calgary, Alberta on Monday, utilizing Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft.

"WestJet's low fares and increasing popularity in Canada and throughout North America made them an obvious fit for DFW, and we think they offer our passengers outstanding connectivity to Canada and the Pacific Northwest," said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW airport.

WestJet features a partnership with American Airlines, DFW's largest carrier and hometown airline, which includes a code sharing agreement and the ability to earn rewards for passengers of either airline.

"Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is the fourth-busiest airport in the United States, as well as a major hub for our partner, American Airlines,” said Chris Avery, WestJet vice-president, Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development. “Combined, the two airlines offer three round trip flights between Calgary and Dallas-Fort Worth, and beyond that, the opportunity to connect to 16 additional cities as part of our code-sharing agreement. This additional connectivity, combined with the opportunity to earn rewards on both airlines, is an attractive prospect for business travelers in particular."

WestJet's arrival marks the eighth new passenger airline and fifth international carrier to begin service at DFW in just over the past two years, continuing a period of unprecedented expansion of service for the airport. WestJet serves a total of 85 destinations in Canada, the United States and Mexico, with hubs in Calgary and Toronto.
