Plane crashes near L.A.: Midair collision causes small plane to crash, The Associated Press reported two small airplanes that crashed after colliding in midair over the Southern California mountains on Monday, April 29, 2013. The collision caused one of the planes to crash into a rocky ridge, and the other was able to maneuver and land on a nearby golf course.

The plane that landed on the golf fairway shocked golfers and the three people on board had only minor injuries.

As for the other plane that crashed into the ridge near Los Angeles, rescuers began a search for any possible survivors. Authorities were not aware of how many people were on the plane when it crashed.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m., firefighters responded to a small wildfire and they located aircraft debris on the site. It was later confirmed that a small plane had crashed near L.A. after colliding with another in midair.

The Federal Aviation Administration said that an early review of the situation showed two flights crossed paths around 2:00 p.m. Both were Cessna 172s with one coming from the east and the other from the west.
