Man arrested after 6-year-old daughter eats crystal meth, On April 23, KDRV reported that an Oregon man has been arrested after police discovered his 6-year-old daughter had eaten crystal meth.
The incident occurred when the Jackson County Sheriff's Office received reports of a man behaving suspiciously at an Ashland Burger King, which led them to 28-year-old Elijah Benbow. A deputy recognized his vehicle on Interstate 5 and pulled him over on the off-ramp in Rogue River.
The deputy noticed that the man was shaking and could not stop moving. Benbow said that the reason was because his daughter hid money from him. The deputy spoke with the 6-year-old girl, who said that her dad was angry because she ate one of his "gray rocks."
Andrea Carlson of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said,
“They found several small baggy’s of meth inside the vehicle. The daughter at one point said, ‘that’s what I ate’, and was able to pinpoint it out that that’s the substance she ingested.”
Paramedics were called and the girl was rushed to the hospital. She was treated and is now in foster care. Elijah Benbow has been arrested on multiple charges and is the Jackson County Jail. His bail is set at $38,000.
Deputies said that they have charged the man with everything that they could and are working with the district attorney's office to determine if more charges can be filed.
There has been no information released on where the mother of the girl is or if she has any relatives that could take care of her. It is obvious that Elijah Benbow only cared about not getting arrested and hiding the fact that he was high. Not only should he have not had crystal meth in the first place, but his daughter needed medical treatment and he selfishly ignored that. Thankfully, this little girl is alive and her father will not be able to put her in danger any longer.
