Two bishops kidnapped in Syria now free according to church official

Two bishops kidnapped in Syria now free according to church official, A report posted today at Yahoo! News says two kidnapped bishops in Syria have been set free, but the identity of their abductors remains a mystery. The two bishops were taken from the northern city of Aleppo on Monday.

Local authorities had blamed rebels for the kidnapping of Greek Orthodox archbishop Paul Yazigi and Syriac Orthodox archbishop Yohanna Ibrahim. However opposition fighters in Aleppo have denied abducting the two bishops, and say they had worked for their release and are attempting to find out who had taken them.

The kidnapped bishops were reportedly "the most senior church figures caught up in the fight between Assad's forces and opposition fighters trying" who have been attempting to end four decades of family rule by President Bashar al-Assad and his late father. The Yahoo! News article says more than 70,000 people have been killed during the conflict.
