Prison guard says Amanda Knox dreamed Obama would welcome her back to US

Prison guard says Amanda Knox dreamed Obama would welcome her back to US, Amanda Knox, who spent time in an Italian prison for the murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, had dreams while incarcerated that President Barack Obama would welcome her back to the United States, according to a May 4, 2013 Daily Mail report.

Prison guard Angela Antonelli also told the Mail that Knox did not show emotion and "...never cried once when I was there and looked into her cell through the hole to check on her and the others.”

Knox, 24, appealed her Dec. 2009 conviction regarding the death of Meredith, 21, with whom she shared a cottage in Italy. She was sentenced to 26 years behind bars in an Italian prison. Also found guilty of participating in the murder was Knox’s ex-boyfriend Rafaelle Sollecito who was sentenced to 25 years in prison, and drifter Rudy Guede who had his initial 30-year sentence reduced to 16 as a result of an appeal.

In Oct. 2011, both Knox and Sollecito's convictions for murder were overturned after the initial DNA testing was questioned and eventually reevaluated. Thus, both were set free and Knox returned to her home state of Washington.

In March 2013, Italy’s highest criminal court overturned the acquittals ruling Knox and Sollecito can be retried for Meredith’s murder.

Antonelli said of Knox's prison stay, “Other people ask for tranquilizers, cry, shout that they didn’t do it, that they’re in pain, that they can’t go on… Many prisoners bang their heads against the walls, sew up their mouths, scream, vomit, cut their wrists. But she showed no reaction.”

The prison guard noted that Knox spoke about President Obama, writing that she dreamed he would personally welcome her back to the U.S.

She also told the Mail that Knox had an obsession with the Beatles and would often sing their songs.

Antonelli added that even if Knox was innocent of murder, she did nothing to help others understand what took place on the night Meredith was killed and “thought only about her own survival.”

In a recent interview with USA Today, Knox said she is considering a return to Italy for the new murder trial, even though her attorneys have told her she does not have to be there.
