Huge egg $101,813: Enormous egg sells for a hefty price, A huge, partly fossilized egg laid by a now-extinct elephant bird sold for a whopping $101,813 at the Christie’s Auction in London. Businees Week's report on April 24 revealed that the selling price was more than double that of its estimate at a London auction. It is largest egg seen so far, as for elephant bird of Madagascar 400 years ago.

The peculiarity of the egg is because it is more than a foot long and nine inches in diameter. It
comes on the heels of the uniqueness of its creator, the elephant bird. The bird was of the flightless kind and it inhabited the island of Madagascar to extinction back in the seventeenth century.

The fossils found and the chronicles of the time placed it as the second highest bird ever to walk the Earth. The elephant bird stood just over three meters high and weighed approximately 400 kilos. So it is not too surprising that their eggs reach some quite impressive sizes.
